Butul is a registered Developmental and Educational Psychologist. She specialises in special education, intellectual disability, and neuro-atypical diagnoses like ASD and ADHD. She has been supporting schools and staff in this capacity in west auckland for 3 years and south Auckland a further 2 years. For the purposes of providing support for cultural capability, Butul hopes to bring together her knowledge of schools, behaviour needs in the classroom and her own Muslim background to provide a comprehenive overview of how schools may best support thier migrant and refugee community.
Leila Adam is a NZ trained teacher with over twenty years experience working in Wellington primary and secondary schools, with Mathematics as a specialty subject. She has been principal of the Kilbirnie Mosque Sunday School for over thirty years, developing textbooks and a NZ relevant Islamic curriculum for Muslim children. Other resource developments include “Tile Designs”, a book on Islamic geometric art (Bateman Publishing). She has helped local high schools in their understanding of diverse faiths and cultures, running workshops and tours at the Kilbirnie Mosque. Recently, she has been a facilitator with the Ministry of Education, working with parents in the Learning Community Hubs project.
Nuzha Saleem is currently in her last year of her PhD program in the School of Psychology at Victoria University of Wellington. She undertakes research in educational resilience for youth from refugee backgrounds living in Aotearoa New Zealand, specifically looking at the impact of inter-personal relationships developed in school on resilience and educational achievement for minority youth. She facilitates the inter-cultural communication workshop for the Wellington International Leadership Program and teaches various undergraduate Psychology courses.
Dr Soha Ahmed is Data specialist and a Funding lead. Soha has more than 15 years experience in data and research. She also has worked with various community organizations and groups helping them with their Funding strategies.
She started her career in data analytics in 2006 where she was focused on using artificial intelligence to automatically diagnose cancer. In 2009, She finished her masters degree at Cairo University in Egypt and then she migrated to Aotearoa in 2012 to start PhD at Victoria University of Wellington. Since 2016 till now, Soha has been working in applying her skills in different domains including Te reo Māori revitalization and community services.
Zimna Thaufeeg has a Masters Degree in International and Development Economics from the Australian National University. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Statistics from Victoria University of Wellington. She has experience in policy development and analysis, especially in health and social protection. She has worked in the Maldives public sector as well as with international organisations such the World Bank, UNDP and ADB. She is currently a Senior Advisor at the Ministry of Justice, in Christchurch, working on the Coronial Inquiry for the Christchurch mosque attacks. She is also an Assistant Research Fellow at the University of Otago.
